NFL says London could have a team by 2015

london-bowl-patriots-buccaneers-2009The NFL in London? Permanently? Are you totally knackered, Roger Goodell?

News reports on Friday said the NFL commissioner thinks a franchise could land in England in the next decade.

“I think it could,” New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft said. “I really believe it’s the right thing to do in the next decade. We have great support here and in Germany.”

The Patriots are in London to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday (1 p.m. ET, CBS; betting line: Patriots –13.5; over/under: 45) at Wembley Stadium. It marks the third straight year for the London Bowl and Goodell said two games could be played in the British capital in 2010 and the NFL’s chief lieutenant in Europe, Alistair Kirkwood, said London could have a franchise by 2015.

Just in case you’re curious, to travel between San Diego and London would be 5,490 miles – more than double the distance between the southern California city and New York (2,432 miles).
