NFL News, Top PostsPackers carve up Lions on Thanksgiving
Well, maybe Matthew Stafford should’ve just sat this one out after all. The Lions’ rookie quarterback had the best day of his pro career on Sunday against the Browns. But when Detroit played one of the NFL’s varsity squads, Stafford reverted to his beleaguered self.
The rookie had suffered a separated shoulder against Cleveland and there was talk that he and receiver Calvin Johnson (knee) wouldn’t play. Both suited up, but Stafford looked lost against the Green Bay Packers, who spoiled Thanksgiving for those Lions fans who showed up at Ford Field. The Packers picked off Stafford four times en route to a 34-12 victory that included 27 unanswered points by Green Bay.
Aaron Rodgers (pictured) had another monster game. Coming off a 344-yard performance against San Francisco, the Packers’ QB went off for 348 and three touchdowns, with no interceptions. Green Bay (7-4) easily covered the point spread of 10.5 while the total fell just under 47.
The Lions (2-9) got a good start when Stafford and Johnson hooked up for the first score of the game on a 1-yard TD pass. But that was the only fantasy football value either provided. Stafford had 20-for-43 for 213 yards and Johnson was held to two catches for 10 yards.
Donald Driver caught seven passes for 142 yards and a TD for the Pack.
