NFL News, Top PostsNFL weather forecast Week 6: Nor’easter plagues New England, New York
The nor’easter that has harassed the East Coast this week will plague several gridirons on Sunday. The worst hit figures to be Foxboro Stadium, where the New England Patriots (3-2) host the winless Tennessee Titans (4:15 p.m. ET, CBS; betting line: Patriots -9.5; over/under: 43.5).
The low temperature is expected to drop under 40 degrees, according to the latest forecast. The high will be 47 and rain is going to be steady and wind will be heavy.
That means you can expect the Patriots to give Fred Taylor and their other running backs the ball a lot while the Titans will also keep it on the ground with Chris Johnson and LenDale White.
Of course, New England is used to this weather and Tom Brady has excelled in the cold during his career. The Titans, on the other hand, are a warm-weather team that has traditionally struggled when the mercury drops. This year, they’re beleaguered early and that doesn’t bode well.
One wild card, however, could be Vince Young. The fleet-footed backup quarterback could get into action if Tennessee struggles with Kerry Collins at the helm. Young’s legs could make a difference in the wet and cold.
Other games that the nor’easter will impact include:
Buffalo Bills at New York Jets (4:15 p.m., CBS; betting line: Jets -8; over/under: 37.5): 46 degrees, heavy rain and wind. Mark Sanchez, a California native, faces his first inclement-weather test as pro. Read the Daily Mark Sanchez to Canton Watch for more.
Kansas City Chiefs at Washington Redskins (1 p.m., CBS; betting line: Redskins -6.5; over/under 37): 45 degrees, 60 percent chance of rain.
In other outdoor action that won’t be effected by the weather pattern:
Houston Texans at Cincinnati Bengals (1 p.m., CBS; betting line: Bengals -4; over/under: 45): 54 degrees and partly sunny.
Detroit Lions at Green Bay Packers (1 p.m., FOX; betting line: Packers -13.5; over/under: 48): 57 degrees and sunny with cloudy periods.
St. Louis Rams at Jacksonville Jaguars (1 p.m., FOX; betting line: Jaguars -10; over/under: 41.5): 67 degrees and sunny.
Cleveland Browns at Pittsburgh Steelers (1 p.m., CBS; betting line: Steelers -14; over/under: 38): 43 degrees with a 50 percent chance of precipitation.
Carolina Panthers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1 p.m., FOX; betting line: Panthers -8; over/under: 40): 69 degrees and mostly sunny.
Philadelphia Eagles at Oakland Raiders (4:05 p.m., FOX; betting line: Eagles -14; over/under: 40.5): 67 degrees, cloudy with sunny breaks by kickoff.
Arizona Cardinals at Seattle Seahawks (4:05 p.m., FOX; betting line: Seahawks –3; over/under: 47.5): 60 degrees with a 30 percent chance of rain.
Denver Broncos at San Diego Chargers (8:30 p.m. Monday, ESPN; betting line: Chargers –4; over/under: 44): 73 degrees and San Diego perfect.
There are three dome games on the Sunday slate:
New York Giants at New Orleans Saints (1 p.m., FOX; betting line: Saints -3; over/under: 47), Baltimore Ravens at Minnesota Vikings (1 p.m., CBS; betting line: Vikings -3; over/under: 43.5) and Chicago Bears at Atlanta Falcons (8:20 p.m., NBC; betting line: Falcons -3; over/under: 46).
