NFL News, Top PostsManning a machine in Super Bowl practice
Peyton Manning threw nine passes on Wednesday and hit all of them, including a touchdown. Yeah, we’d say he’s in MVP form. The Colts’ quarterback faced a scout team defense that was playing in a nickel formation at the Miami Dolphins’ training facility.
That was the good news for the Colts. But also a given. Everyone knows Manning is going to be ready and will probably have a tremendous game on Sunday in Super Bowl XLIV. The big question surrounding Indianapolis remained unanswered as All-Pro defensive end Dwight Freeney stayed off the field as he nurses a right ankle that has torn ligaments.
Freeney’s status is uncertain, but he did say the pain has subsided a bit. Rookie starting cornerback Jerraud Powers, hobbled by an injured left foot, didn’t practice either but his chances of playing appear strong.
SAINTS ‘AHEAD OF SCHEDULE’
The Saints appeared stoked for Sunday during their practice. Not only were several injured starters on the field and looking well, coach Sean Payton declared the team was further along than he anticipated in its preparation.
“I think we’re ahead of schedule with just about everything we’re trying to get done,” Payton said.
One notable part of the Saints’ practice was the amount of time the defense spent on turnover drills. Cornerback Randall Gay picked off two passes against the New Orleans scout team.
Does that mean they’ve got some surprises coming Manning’s way? Well, it definitely means they’ll try, but more than likely Payton knows the Saints are going to have to win the turnover battle if they’re going to win this game.
KIM KARDASHIAN’S BOYFRIEND WANTS A RING
Poor, Reggie Bush. Trojan man can’t get no respect.
The Saints’ running back recently said a fan came up to him in an elevator and exclaimed, “You’re Kim Kardashian’s boyfriend.”
As Bush told an interviewer, “Some people don’t even know I play football.”
Sadly for Reggie that includes many people who follow the NFL. His breakout game against the Arizona Cardinals in the division playoff round on January 16 may only be considered an anomaly – unless he goes off again against an average Indianapolis defense.
Bush certainly has the potential to be a game-changer and he will have opportunities to do so as Payton and Drew Brees are sure to get him the ball early. Score once, maybe twice, and the Saints might indeed have the ring they’re after. If not, then Bush will have to settle for the ring he seems destined to put on Kardashian’s finger.
“It’s funny. That’s just how some people know me – as Kim Kardashian’s boyfriend. I take it for what it is.”
What it means, Reggie, is you’re No. 2 off the field. Will you be No. 1 on it?
