Brett Favre is back in Green Bay, does anyone care?

brett-favre-returns-to-lambeau-fieldThe Brett Favre Homecomingpalooza is officially here. And arriving to douse any potential fireworks is old No. 4 himself.

“I think it’s more intriguing for everyone else,” said Favre, who rewrote the NFL record book and forged a hall of fame career while playing for the Packers from 1992 to 2007. “As I’ve said before, what I’ve accomplished there and was a part of … you can’t take that away.”

Favre waffled about retirement for years then tried to engineer a trade to Minnesota last season when the Packers finally opted for his apprentice, Aaron Rodgers. After getting dealt to the Jets and an awful second half of the season, he signed with the Vikings in August as a free agent after even more waffling. He said he isn’t sure how Packers fans will treat him Sunday.

“It’s OK to pull for your team, I guess, but I can’t make anyone cheer or boo or whatever,” he said. “What I was a part of there in the past will never be taken away. I’m very proud of that part of my career. This is a totally different year. I have no idea how this will unfold, but there are no sentiments one way or another other than we need to win this football game.”

Favre, who was nearly flawless (24-of-31, 271 yards and 3TDs) in the Vikings 30-23 win over the Packers in Minneapolis earlier this season, said he understood the conflict Green Bay fans are experiencing.

“Packer fans are, as you know, like no other. But if you’re a true Packer fan, you want the Packers to win. If you’re a Brett Favre fan then this week, obviously, you don’t want me to win but for the most part, ‘hey, I hope the guy does well but hope the Packers go all the way’ ”

“Now the people that that have jumped ship completely. What can I do? I’m not going to concern myself. We have gotten all the letters,” said Favre before pausing to shake imaginary mail,  “Check for something ticking. White powder.

“There was always Brett Favre haters out there and that will never change”

On Wednesday, Green Bay mayor Jim Schmitt, who asked his citizenry for suggestions as to how to welcome Favre back, announced the winning entries, which will be played out in the city until Sunday.
