The Kansas City Chiefs said farewell to its biggest headache and released RB Larry Johnson on Monday.

It was the first day that Johnson had been eligible to return to the team following a two-week suspension. Instead, the club opted to move on without a former all-pro who was 74 yards shy of becoming the franchise’s all-time rusher.
Johnson had been suspended for conduct detrimental to the team following a Twitter rant that belittled his rookie coach, Todd Haley, and a gay slur issued on the social networking site which was repeated the next day when the local media inquired about the incident.
He missed Sunday’s 24-21 loss in Jacksonville and the team’s bye week. Although the team originally sought a two-week suspension in pay, Johnson had the penalty cut down to one week, roughly $330,000.
Johnson rushed 1,375 times for 5,996 yards as a Chief, second only to Priest Holmes, with 55 touchdowns.
Over the last few years, he also led the team in brushes with the law.
He has been accused of assaulting four different women in the last 5 years. Last year Johnson was benched for 3 games for violating unspecified team rules and suspended for another by the league for violating its conduct policy in connection with two assault incidents involving women in bars.
