The New York Daily News declared “A Star is Born” on its back page Monday. We at NFLPosts.com ask, what took them so long?
It’s obvious Mark Sanchez is such a sure-fire immortal we only have to sit back and wait for his enshrinement day in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Not only is Sanchez clearly headed for Canton, Ohio, he just may be on the road to beatification. Just think of what a difference he’s already made in people’s lives. On Monday, Joe from Flushing had been rendered so gaga by Sanchez that the long-time listener admitted to WFAN 660 hosts, “I can’t remember the last time I was this happy to be a Jets fan.”
Such unabashed yuck, er, love almost makes you want to come down with a case of gangrene, doesn’t it?
With that, we begin the Daily Mark Sanchez to Canton Watch*. Sanchez defeated the Texans 24-7 in his NFL debut, which featured 272 yards on 18-for-31 passing with one pick and a 30-yard TD to Chansi Stuckey. Sanchez no doubt spent his Monday reveling in his accomplishments, helped considerably by the fawning headlines and adulation in and around Gotham.
*The DMSTCW forecasts Sanchez will be inducted in 2030 after an 18-year career during which he will accumulate: 111,186 passing yards (he was born on November 11, 1986); 6 Super Bowl championships (to go along with his uniform number); $1 billion in endorsements (including several deals involving teeth-whitening products); 11,550 panties (same numbers as the zip code of the Jets’ headquarters in Hempstead, New York, which incidentally, will be renamed Sanchezstead upon his retirement); and 1 kiss from Suzy Kolber (willingly given).
