FeaturesThe Daily Mark Sanchez to Canton Watch: Looking good, feeling good
Mark Sanchez hit the practice field with arms bare, knees armored and eyes that looked ready to lead an army. Taking snaps for the first time since his knee injury on December 3, the Jets’ quarterback seemed fully recovered, which impressed teammates.
“Mark looked good,” said wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery. “The coaches didn’t tell us anything [about whether he would start], but he looked good.”
Sanchez split snaps with the first-team offense with Kellen Clemens, who started and won at Tampa Bay last week. Another NFC South team, the Atlanta Falcons (6-7), is up next and coach Rex Ryan is not saying who will get the call at QB. He said he wants to make sure Sanchez gets through the night pain-free and doesn’t have any setbacks during this week of practice before announcing a starter for Sunday’s game at the Meadowlands.
Sanchez says he plans on playing and perhaps the show of short sleeves in sub-freezing temperatures was an indication of his desire to be in the lineup for what would be his first game in severe cold weather as a pro. Temperatures will be in the 30s by gametime (1 p.m. ET, FOX).
“It was good. I needed it,” said Sanchez, who sprained the posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee against the Bills. “It thickened up my blood. … Yeah, baby!”
The Jets (7-6) need to win Sunday to stay alive in the AFC wild-card race.

*The DMSTCW forecasts Mark Sanchez will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2030 after an 18-year career during which he will accumulate: 111,186 passing yards (he was born on November 11, 1986); 6 Super Bowl championships (to go along with his uniform number); $1 billion in endorsements (including several deals involving teeth-whitening products); 11,550 panties (same numbers as the zip code of the Jets’ headquarters in Hempstead, New York, which incidentally, will be renamed Sanchezstead upon his retirement); enough pats on the behind from Fireman Ed to make him feel uncomfortable; and 1 kiss from Suzy Kolber (willingly given).
