FeaturesThe Daily Mark Sanchez to Canton Watch: Gauging rookie QBs
If Mark Sanchez starts all 16 games for the Jets this season, he’ll become only the seventh NFL rookie quarterback to do so.
The first four, including Peyton Manning, had woeful records as they were high draft picks thrown into the fire on bad football teams. The most recent two – Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco – had excellent success last year. Sanchez is hoping to replicate their numbers, as well as stay healthy enough and performing well enough to play all 16.
Thanks to TampaBayOnline.com for providing these numbers.
Started Every Game As Rookie QB
• 1971 – Patriots’ Jim Plunkett (first pick), 6-8 record.
• 1993 – Seahawks’ Rick Mirer (second pick), 6-10 record.
• 1998 – Colts’ Peyton Manning (first pick), 3-13 record.
• 2002 – Texans’ David Carr (first pick), 4-12 record.
• 2008 – Falcons’ Matt Ryan (third pick), 11-5 record.
• 2008 – Ravens’ Joe Flacco (18th pick), 11-5 record.
Note: The Steelers’ Ben Roethlisberger won 13 games in his rookie year, but Tommy Maddox opened the season as Pittsburgh’s starting QB.
*The DMSTCW forecasts Mark Sanchez will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2030 after an 18-year career during which he will accumulate: 111,186 passing yards (he was born on November 11, 1986); 6 Super Bowl championships (to go along with his uniform number); $1 billion in endorsements (including several deals involving teeth-whitening products); 11,550 panties (same numbers as the zip code of the Jets’ headquarters in Hempstead, New York, which incidentally, will be renamed Sanchezstead upon his retirement); enough pats on the behind from Fireman Ed to make him feel uncomfortable; and 1 kiss from Suzy Kolber (willingly given).
