Interim coach Perry Fewell installed Ryan Fitzpatrick as the Buffalo’s starting quarterback on Wednesday, saying the veteran journeyman gave the team a better chance to win Sunday against Jacksonville.
Fitzpatrick is 1-1 in two starts and also sparked the Bills to a 16-13 win against the Jets in overtime, after Trent Edwards was injured.
Edwards, the league’s 24th-ranked passer, has struggled all season to move the Bills offense, which ranks 4th-worst.
Terrell Owens, for one, applauded the move.
“I think Ryan No. 1 is a veteran. He has a lot more experience. There are some situations where he’ll be able to buy time with that experience. There will be some times where he can assess the defense and really take some shots down the field. We’re looking forward to the opportunity with Ryan,” said Owens.
Fewell was promoted from defensive co-ordinator after Dick Jauron was fired Tuesday.
