The disappointing Steelers wideout can’t even catch a break.
Limas Sweed injured his Achilles tendon on Sunday, the last day of the Steelers’ minicamp and the injury could be serious.
“I didn’t have direct eyes on him (when he was hurt). It’s just one of those things,” said head coach Mike Tomlin.
Sweed was hurt on a passing drill and taken off the field on a cart. If the Achilles is ruptured, he could miss the season.
Sweed is a second-round pick from Texas who has caught just seven passes in his first two seasons and may have had a hard time making the roster had the team not dealt Santonio Holmes to the Jets.
Last season he was supplanted as the Steelers’ third receiver by rookie Mike Wallace and was removed from the active roster on Dec. 22 for what the team said were personal reasons.
“There were just some personal things that I went through in my life, but my family and the Steelers helped me get through it,” Sweed said Friday. “But I feel like a kid again. It’s good to be back playing.”
