Drew Brees and Adrian Peterson were the stars during the NFL’s opening week, putting up huge numbers to lead their respective teams to victory.
On flip side, Jake Delhomme killed owners with another putrid effort.
Here are more standouts and washouts:
Studs
Drew Brees: Building off his incredible 2008 campaign, Brees completely destroyed the Lions with a mesmerizing passing display featuring a 358-yard performance and a franchise-setting six touchdowns. Brees was also in a giving mood to his teammates, throwing TD passes to five different receivers.
Adrian Peterson: The running monster continues to show he’s the best player on his team despite the signing of some guy name Favre. Peterson ripped off 186 yards on the ground while also scorching the Browns for three touchdowns, including an impressive 64-yard scamper.
Tony Romo: Who needs T.O. Romo obviously didn’t in the Cowboys’ season-opener against Tamp Bay. Romo posted a career-high 353-yard passing day along with three touchdowns. His 80-yard TD toss to Patrick Crayton was Dallas’s longest play from scrimmage since 2002.
Joe Flacco: It’s evident Ravens offensive co-ordinator Cam Cameron has taken the shackles off Flacco. The second-year man dissected the Kansas City defense with 307 yards and three scores.
Reggie Wayne: The Colts undisputed No. 1 receiver proved his worth against the Jags, grabbing 10 balls for 162 yards. His 35-yard touchdown pass was a thing of beauty as he faked out safety Reggie Nelson with a jock-dropping inside move.
Honorable Mentions
Matt Hasselbeck – 279 yards, 3 TDs
Mark Sanchez – 272 yards, 1 TD
Julius Jones – 117 yards, 1 TD
Thomas Jones – 107 yards, 2 TDs
Patrick Crayton – 135 yards, 1 TD
Santonio Holmes – 131 yards, 1 TD
Devery Henderson – 103 yards, 1 TD
John Carlson – 95 yards, 2 TDs
Duds
Jake Delhomme – Fantasy owners hoping to see Delhomme recover from a dismal playoff performance were instead forced to witness a similar horrific effort. Delhomme was picked off four times by the Eagles, who only surrendered seven completions to the Panthers veteran.
Jay Cutler: The gunslinger had a brutal start to his Bears debut, throwing a career-worst four INTs to the Green Bay Packers. With the lack of a big-time receiver in Chicago, expect Cutler to have more lows this year.
Matthew Stafford – His 205 yards was a pretty good start, but the rookie threw three interceptions, giving the explosive Saints’ offense more than enough opportunities to do their thing.
Michael Turner – While the Dolphins lost the game, they did manage to keep Turner in check, limiting him to just 65 yards on 22 carries.
Braylon Edwards – Once a fantasy stud, Edwards continues to frustrate owners. The Vikings did their part in Week 1, allowing Edwards only one catch for 12 yards.
Forgettable Five
David Garrard – 122 yards, O TD
Willie Parker – 19 yards, O TDs
Steve Slaton – 17 yards, O TDs
LenDale White – 29 yards, O TDs
Santana Moss – 6 yards, O TDs

What about Big Ben as an Honorable Mention – 363 yards and a TD isn’t bad, against one of the top 5 defences in the league.
