Fantasy standouts and washouts

commishBrandon Marshall had a record-setting day against the Indianapolis Colts.

It’s just unfortunate he accomplished the feat in a losing effort.

Marshall broke Terrell Owens’s reception record, hauling in 21 passes from Denver quarterback Kyle Orton. The Broncos big man single-handedly kept his team in the game with 200 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns.

His second score brought Denver to within 5 points in the fourth quarter, but alas, Marshall doesn’t play defense.

Here are more standouts and washouts:

Standouts

QB Eli Manning (vs. PHI): Manning broke his single-game yardage record, throwing for 391 yards against the Eagles – besting the 384 yards he put up when the Falcons visited Giants Stadium in Week 11. He also tossed 3 TDs, 2 went for 60-plus yards, respectively.

QB Matt Schaub (vs. SEA): Schaub returned to early-season form, completing 29-of-39 passes for 365 yards and a pair of TDs. Schaub had been hampered by a left shoulder injury, but it didn’t affect him against the Seahawks.

WR DeSean Jackson (@ NYG): So much for his concussion problems. Jackson erased any doubt regarding his health. The speedy wideout was a beast Sunday night, scorching New York for 178 receiving yards and a touchdown. He didn’t stop there. Jackson also had 2 punts for 83 yards, including one that went 72 yards for a score.

WR Andre Johnson (@ SEA): Johnson was simply a terror with the struggling Seahawks in town. By the end, Johnson finished with 11 catches for 193 yards. He did most of his damage in the first half, piling up 184 yards on 10 catches and 2 TDs. Johnson’s performance leapfrogs him into first place in receiving yards this season.

Honorable Mention
QB Drew Brees – 296 yards, 3 TDs
QB Chris Redman – 303 yards, 1 TD
RB Ray Rice – 166 yards, 1 TD
RB Ryan Grant – 137 yards, 2 TDs
RB Jamaal Charles – 143, yards, 1 TD
RB Chris Johnson – 117 yards, 2 TDs

Washouts

QB Matt Cassel (vs. BUF): You would think a guy going 26-of-43 for 224 yards equates to a nice day at the office. But you would be wrong, especially when 4 interceptions are attached to those stats. Cassel has now thrown 8 picks in his last 5 games.

QB Josh Freeman (vs. NYJ): Freeman tossed another 3 interceptions against the Jets, brining the grand total for his first season under center to 13 – and that’s in only 6 career starts.

QB Carson Palmer (@ MIN): The Vikings really did a number on Palmer, preventing the Bengals quarterback from making any big plays on Sunday. Palmer completed just 15-of-25 passes for 93 yards and 1 TD.

WR Randy Moss (vs. CAR): Fantasy owners have not been pleased with Moss’s play in the last month. The Panthers were the latest team to limit Moss from the big game. Moss could only manage 1 pass and 16 yards. He then proceeded to lose a fumble after the catch while also dropping 2 other passes. Since his great game against the Colts, Moss has registered only 11 receptions.

WR Terrell Owens and Lee Evans (@ K.C.): The Bills may have won in Kansas City but their offense put in another inept performance. At the heart of the problem were Owen and Evans, who combined for 3 catches, 26 yards and 1 TD. And this tandem was supposed to light up the NFL?

Forgettable Five

QB Jay Cutler – 209 yards, 2 TDs, 2 INTs
WR Chad Ochocinco – 27 yards, 1 TD
WR Donnie Avery – 14 yards, 0 TDs
WR Louis Murphy – 9 yards, 0 TDs
WR Hines Ward – 21 yards, 0 TDs
