Fantasy FootballDrew Brees
Is trouble coming to the Bayou?
Sure, the Saints are 7-0, but Drew Brees – the MVP of the first month of the season – has six turnovers in his past two games. New Orleans barely survived both contests, including Monday night’s thrilling 35-27 win over NFC South rival Atlanta (4-3).
Brees is no longer in the top five in passing yards and although he’s tied for the league lead in TD throws with 16, he had such a big lead in that category not long ago that there was speculation he would threaten Tom Brady’s NFL record of 50.
He’s thrown four interceptions and fumbled twice in wins over the Falcons and Dolphins. The Saints had four turnovers in both of those games, a disturbing trend.
The Saints do have an opportunity to dominate this month. Their next three opponents – Carolina, Tampa Bay and St. Louis – have a combined 4-18 record. They figure to be 10-0 heading into a November 30 clash with Brady and the New England Patriots at the Superdome.
THE SIGNPOST: Play Brees until his arm falls off. But if you’re betting against the point spread, don’t go heavy. The Saints are going to be giving more and more points until they lose and if they continue to turn the ball over they’re ripe for both an upset and a blown cover.
